Coca-Cola Scholarship Program 2010

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

1. Seniors in high schools throughout the United States who meet the eligibility requirements may apply each year for one of 250 four-year, achievement-based scholarships. Students will find the application link on coca colaweb-page between August 1 and October 31. The deadline is October 31st and the student must be a senior at the time of application.

2. Approximately 2,200 applicants will be selected as Semifinalists in mid-November and notified by mail and email. Semifinalists must then complete a secondary application, including essays, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. Semifinalist applications will be due by mid-January. Our Program Review Committee will select 250 Finalists to advance to the final interview phase. Notifications are sent mid-February.

3. In April, the 250 Finalists are invited to Atlanta for personal interviews. The Finalists are interviewed by a National Selection Committee representing outstanding leaders in business, government, education and the arts. 50 students are then designated as National Scholars and receive awards of $20,000 for college; 200 students are designated as Regional Scholars and receive awards of $10,000 for college.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

APPLICANTS MUST BE:
• CURRENT high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the United States (or select DoD schools);
• U.S. Citizens; U.S. Nationals; U.S. Permanent Residents; Temporary Residents (in a legalization program); Refugees; Asylees; Cuban-Haitian Entrants; or Humanitarian Parolees;
• anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application;
• planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution;
• carrying a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school.

APPLICANTS MAY NOT:
• be children or grandchildren of employees, officers or owners of Coca?Cola bottling companies, The Coca?Cola Company, Company divisions or subsidiaries;

Full time PhD Scholarship in Corporate Responsibility, Nottingham University [UK]

FULL-TIME PHD SCHOLARSHIP CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: The scholarship will cover full tuition fees as well as tax-free living expenses of £13,290 per year (estimate at ESRC rate).
Your entry into the scholarship competition will require your acceptance onto the Doctoral Programme. Students who want to be considered for this scholarship competition should submit their postgraduate application by 31 August 2009 at the latest.

Indicate that you are interested in this scholarship in the personal details section of the online postgraduate application form or section 3 of the hardcopy postgraduate application form. In response to the question ‘how do you expect to pay for you studies’ you need to state ‘ICCSR Second Round Scholarship applicant’.

You should also submit, with your application, your research proposal, two academic references, academic transcripts and English language (if required). Applicants should be available to begin their doctoral studies in September 2009.

Scholarship applications will be evaluated on the basis of former qualifications, academic background, references and research proposal. All of the documentation relating to this must be submitted by the scholarship deadline of 31 August 2009.

Your doctoral studies will be supervised by two academic members of staff (at least one of which will be a member of the ICCSR team) and therefore please ensure that a member of the ICCSR academic team is currently working in the area you are interested in studying. At this late stage candidates who have already entered into correspondence with a potential supervisor are more likely to be successful.

To give your application the best chance of success, then please pay particular attention to the following:

• The relevance of your project to your potential supervisors research interests
• The suitability of your topic for study at postdoctoral level
• The feasibility of completing your research within the timescales of a PhD
• The practicality of your research plans particularly with respect to the access you might be able to secure for data collection.

Daiwa Scholarships 2010 [Japan]

The Daiwa Scholarship is a unique 19-month programme of language study, work placement and homestay in Japan.

Daiwa Scholarships offer young and talented UK citizens with strong leadership potential, the opportunity to acquire Japanese language skills, and to access expertise and knowledge relevant to their career goals.

NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OF JAPAN OR JAPANESE IS NECESSARY.

By April 2009, 116 Daiwa Scholars - including scientists, artists, academics, lawyers and architects - will have benefited from the Daiwa Scholarships.

Daiwa Scholarships are provided by the Foundation to encourage better understanding between both countries.

The Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship Program 2010

The Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan. The objective of the program is to provide an opportunity for well qualified citizens of the Bank’s Developing Member Countries (DMCs) to undertake postgraduate studies which will assist the economic and social development of their countries.

Who is eligible?

Citizens of developing member countries of the Bank (see list and selection criteria below) who have a minimum of two years’ working experience and who are eligible for admission to the following degree programs at the University of Sydney:

• Master of Economics
• Master of Commerce
• Master of International Business
• Master of Transport Management
• Master of International Public Health
• Master of Engineering

Please note, applicants living or working outside their home country are not eligible for this scholarship. Also, no applicant will be allowed to apply for the ADB-JSP scholarship more than two times.

PhD / MEngSc Scholarship in the Area of Geospatial Applications of Wireless Sensors [Ireland]

Applications are invited for a Masters/PhD studentship inthe area of wireless sensor networks for collection of real time data for use in geospatial applications. This area of research, led by Dr. Ronan Farrell, will be undertaken in close collaboration with the national StratAG (www.stratag.ie) research consortium on advanced geotechnologies. The focus of this consortium is the application of geotechnology to more real time data and environments. The objective of this project is to provide the sensing and communications technologies to deliver this real time information.

Wireless sensor networks have been used widely for a number of years but there uses have been constrained to being either short range or low data rates. In this application it is necessary to look at applications where we may be dealing with wide areas (for example the coastline of the island of Ireland,or covering an entire city) and where we may have high bandwidth requirements(streaming video or high resolution still images). The objective is to explore architectures that will utilise existing GSM/UMTS mobile phone networks in such a manner as to facilitate efficient wide area communications. This will involve the exploration of communication networks and architectures,distributed processing and load optimisation.

Interested candidates should hold a first or upper second class honours degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or a cognate discipline. Applicants who hold research masters in a relevant area are particularly welcomed. Thiswork is inherently multidisciplinary and the successful applicant will need to collaborate with computer scientists, engineers and geographers. Excellence in communications and wireless technologies would be highly valued as would an open attitude to collaboration outside of one’s comfort zone.

Successful candidates will join a large multi-disciplinary team and be initially enrolled on a full-time Masters of Engineering Science, with a review after 18 months for progression to a PhD programme. The studentship willcomprise of fees and an annual stipend of 16,000 Euros (index linked). The position is available immediately though, upon agreement, the start date may be postponed to January 2009.

Funded International Students Innovation Camp, Palomar5, Berlin [Germany]

Become one of the 30 young minds and realize your ideas during a 6-week-innovation camp in Berlin in Oct/Nov!
Palomar5 is a project founded 2009 in Berlin. This non-profit initiative forms a network of creative people with the will to design and engineer the working world of tomorrow. Palomar5 wants to break with prevailing paradigms and build new structures that can satisfy the needs and possibilities of our young generation.

From October until end of November 2009, young visionaries will come together in Berlin’s spectacular Malzfabrik. They will live and work in a unique experimental space for six weeks and get input and feedback from inspiring experts from business, culture, and science. The Palomar5 camp wants to overcome the limitations of think-tanks and barcamps: Ideas should not only be thought, they should come alive. An Idea could end up as software, a scenario-game or a prototype model. During the Palomar5 summit following the camp decision makers from companies and thought leaders in our society will be invited to dive into the camp participants’ temporary working world and to get inspiration for their organizations.

PhD Scholarships are available to suitable students with a background in Mathematics, Science or Engineering and with an interest in Nanotechnology.

Specific areas in Nanotechnology include:

Postdoctoral positions, RIKEN Brain Science Institute Wako [Japan]

We are currently hiring post-doctoral positions in the Gardner Research Unit at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute.We are looking for highly motivated scientists whoare interested in studying visual perception with a combination of functional MRI techniques and psychophysics. Candidates should have, or be expecting to receive, a PhD in neuroscience, bioengineering, or related fields. A strong training in experimental methodology (not necessarily fMRI and psychophysics – for example, single-unit neurophysiology is appropriate) with solid quantitative skills is required.

RIKEN is located in Wako, Japan which is a 12 minute train ride from central Tokyo. Seminars and daily scientific activities at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute are all conducted in English. Non-Japanese applicants may apply for on-campus housing for their first year.
