ESRC 1+3 and +3 studentships in Science and Technology Studies PhD/MSc (Research) Science and Technology Studies The Science and Technology Studies Doctoral Programme at Edinburgh is a designated ESRC outlet for 1+3 and +3 PhD studentships, available for UK or EU students. UK student awards cover fees and maintenance; EU students normally receive fees only; part-time students receive the fees plus pro rata maintenance. 1+3 awards combine 1 year of MSc research training with 3 years’ PhD funding. +3 awards are for applicants who have already completed a year of ESRC-recognised research training.
