This may include study related to education, health, rural livelihoods, governance, human rights, or economic development, depending on the human resource development training needs of the home government. New Zealand -Development Scholarships are offered for full-time, tertiary level study at participating New Zealand education institutions. The NZDS scheme has two categories: 1-New Zealand Development Scholarships – Public category (NZDS-Public) The NZDS-Public scholarships scheme is a bilateral scheme available to individuals from selected partner countries in Southeast Asia and thePacific. The selection criteria is determined by the partner government and NZAID. Shortlisted applications, mostly from public sector employees, are endorsed for a scholarship by the partner government. PhD Scholarship in Electronic Engineering, Victoria University of Wellington [New Zealand]

PhD Scholarship in Electronic Engineering, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand The Electronic Instrumentation research group at Victoria University of Wellington was recently awarded funds for the development of new Nuclear Magnetic Resonance technologies. We are now looking for a suitable PhD student to assist with this work. The research grant provides a three year NZ $27,000 per annum tax free scholarship as well as tuition fees. The Project Nuclear Magnetic Resonance is a relatively new sensing technology that has yet to be applied to the everyday world. One of the barriers to adoption is the complexity of the method and the sophistication, size and cost of the supporting electronics. The aim of this project is to continue the development of compact high performance systems by taking advantage of new FPGA, sampling and signal processing technologies. More specifically we wish to design a high performance band-pass sampling digital NMR receiver where traditional RF techni...

PhD Scholarships in Bayesian Computer Modeling and Visualization of Virus Phylogegraphy [New Zealand]

Two PhD scholarships are available in the Computational Evolution Group at the University of Auckland under the supervision of Dr Alexei Drummond, co-founder of the BEAST software package for Bayesian evolutionary analysis. The successful candidates will be involved in developing a Bayesian unification of geographical population dynamics and phylogenetics with a focus on human pathogenic viruses. Current phylogenetic models provide inferences about genetic variation, however this research will focus on the roles of landscape, geography, dispersal and migration, in shaping (viral) genetic histories. The successful candidates will work on two novel classes of tractable phylogenetic models that explicitly include the spatial distribution of samples and the geographic features of surrounding habitats. While the primary focus of the research will be on viral pathogens, the proposed work will have the potential to establish a new foundation for phylogeographic modelling in general. Besid...

PhD Scholarship in Genetic Programming for Data Mining Tasks, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand

PhD Scholarship in Genetic Programming for Data Mining Tasks, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand Genetic Programming and Evolutionary Computing research group The Genetic Programming and Evolutionary Computing research group at Victoria University of Wellington was recently awarded a large research grant in Genetic Programming (GP) for data mining tasks by the Marsden Fund of New Zealand (similar to the National Science Foundation in USA). We are looking for a good PhD student in this field. The grant will provide full funding for the student to cover the tuition fees, living allowance, and travel cost. The Project Data mining tasks arise in a wide variety of practical situations, ranging from classification to regression, clustering, and optimisation tasks. Since the 1990s, genetic programming (GP) has become a promising approach to building reliable data mining models quickly and automatically. GP uses ideas analogous to biological evolution to search the space of possibl...

PhD Studentship in Programming Languages, University of Wellington, New Zealand

PhD Studentship in Programming Languages, University of Wellington, New Zealand (Ownership and Immutability) Unification of Immutability and Ownership. I am actively looking for a PhD student in programming languages (ownership types and immutability). I have full funding available to cover fees, living, and travel. Please email me for more information if you have a Masters or Honours degree and a good background in programming languages and/or type systems! Applications from both domestic and international students invited. The Project Object-oriented programs at run-time consist of objects - small software components that are created, changed, and destroyed as the program runs. The uncontrolled ability of objects to change other objects is well known to result in many errors in large systems. Immutability - an ability to prevent changes to objects - is a mechanism that could be used to provide such control. While immutability controls whether an object can be changed, it is not enoug...
