During the first year, the successful candidates will register for the Masters in Strategic Management, which involves a mix of advanced content based subjects, research methodologies courses and the development of a PhD research proposal.
This is followed by the doctoral research period. The successful candidate will complete his/her PhD in a maximum of 4 years. The opportunity will be available to complete the doctorate within the framework of the EU 'European PhD' program.
The doctoral scholarship is for approx. 900 Euros net per month over the 4 year period. An extra bursary is offered for expenses related to attendance of doctoral colloquiums. In addition, the successful candidate's tuition and course fees will also be paid for the entire period of the PhD scholarship. Private medical insurance is provided by the university. Students will be offered the opportunity to gain teaching experience.
The University: The Rovira & Virgili University (URV - Universitat Rovira i Virgili www.urv.net (http://www.urv.net/) is situated in the province of Tarragona in Catalonia in the North East of Spain). The university consists of eleven faculties and schools which teach over fifty different courses in the areas of business studies, health sciences, social sciences, humanities, technology and experimental sciences. The Department of Business Management is located in the Faculty of Economics and Business (www.dge.urv.es/web) in the city of Reus.
Location: The nearest airports are Reus International Airport (just 10 minutes from the faculty) (www.reus-aeroport.info) and Barcelona Airport (www.barcelona-airport.com) at approx 100 kms.
The Candidate: Prospective candidates will hold a postgraduate degree/masters in Business studies or a related area (preferably a 2.1 honours or equivalent) and will have at least a basic level of the Spanish language. The taught courses will be taken in Spanish and English. Opportunities will be provided to improve Spanish language skills.
Research Topics: The scholarships are designed for candidates with an interest in researching in one of the following specialist areas:
- Marketing – Online consumer behaviour. Waiting behaviour. Service delivery in the new economy (e-mà rqueting and call center marketing)
- Human Resource Management – Roles in the HR function (middle managers and outsourcing. Work and employment in technology mediated environments, such as call centers). International HRM.
- Financial Maths – Financial Markets and Products. Tax and financial operations. Application of Fuzzy Logic in Financial Operations.
