The Department of Health and Human Sciences at the University of Essex invites applications for a three-year PhD scholarship starting in October 2007. The successful applicant will receive an annual allowance towards tuition fees and maintenance, of up to £10,000 for full-time study. Subject to work permit requirements, you will be permitted to undertake some paid employment by mutual agreement.
The University's Department of Health and Human Sciences has an excellent reputation for research and teaching in health and social care. In the 2001 UK Research Assessment Exercise, our research was submitted with the Department of Sociology which achieved the highest possible rating of 6. We are a multi-disciplinary department which hosts PhD students with a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds. Applications for this scholarship are particularly welcome in the following areas:
- Microsimulation modelling of options for financing long-term care
(supervisor: Professor Ruth Hancock) - Spirituality and Health Care
(supervisor: Dr Simon Carmel) - Investigating "healthy migrant" effects in the UK
(supervisor: Dr David Pevalin) - Processes of consumption in relation to health and healthcare
(supervisor: Dr Ewen Speed)
Applicants wishing to pursue a PhD or Professional Doctorate in other areas relevant to the Department's research are also encouraged to apply.
