We invite applications for a postdoctoral research fellow in the Division of Cardiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with scientists from many disciplines (physicists, engineers, medical practitioners).
The applications we study require simulations at a very large scale (the entire heart or parts of the anatomical heart). These accurate full-scale simulations, with the large number of unknowns, are performed on fully resolved grids.
We currently have Finite Element Method based code developed in C++ using explicit numerical schemes. The candidate will develop improvements in code performance and, generally, develop numerical schemes to handle nonlinear wave propagation in 3D diffusion-reaction systems. Finally, the visualization of the results and ability to explore and inspect data by visual and computational tools is an integral part of this position.
Candidate should have a Ph.D. degree preferably from engineering, mathematics or physics background. The essential skills for this position is knowledge of:
* Finite Element Method
* Computer programming in C++
* Numerical techniques for solving nonlinear PDEs
Postdoctoral position is for one year increment renewable up to 2 years (salary $33,000+benefits).
Please send your CV, a cover letter describing your background and research interests, and
the names and email addresses of at least 2 references to:
