PhD Position/Research assistant (half time) for 3 years is available in Zentrum für Technomathematik at the University of Bremen, Germany.
The position is in the Project “Stability, robustness and approximation of Dynamic large-scale networks — Theory and applications in logistic networks” funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.
Brief description of the project:
The dynamics of complex, large-scale networks of interacting dynamical systems are hard to analyze and in many aspects methods and tools for the analysis are missing. In this project we will study such networks from the point of view of stability and approximation theory and investigate applications in logistics. To this end criteria for stability of nominal and perturbed networks will be developed. Furthermore, we will study the robustness of such networks with respect to perturbation of the dynamics in the vertices and of network structure. To obtain approximation techniques that retain structural properties of networks we propose an approach based on separation of time scales and on ranking schemes for the vertices of the network. This approach is motivated by a real-world logistic scenario in which different time scales occur in a natural manner. The theoretical results will be used to obtain further insight into the dynamics of logistic networks and to derive logistics management principles.
Requirements:
MSc or Diplom in Mathematics, preferably in one of the fields: Control Theory, Dynamical systems, Differential equations, stability theory, graph theory. Skills in computer programming, particular MATLAB, is an advantage.
Experience in modeling of networks or logistic processes is an advantage.
The salary is at TVOeD E13/2 (former BAT IIa/2), approximately 1400-1600 Euro / month. Informal inquiries may be made to Dr. Sergey Dashkovskiy dsn@math.uni-bremen.de
Application should be sent via Email: dsn@math.uni-bremen.de
Deadline is 31.07.2007.
