Germany: PhD Studentship and Postdoc Position in the Department of Computer Science, TU Braunschweig
The Algorithms Group in the Department of Computer Science at Braunschweig University of Technology offers a wide range of interdisciplinary research activities. Until recently part of the Department of Mathematical Optimization, the group (headed by Professor Dr. Sándor P. Fekete), has three new vacancies for computer scientists or mathematicians, starting in october (exact date negotiable).
We are looking for:
* a scientific employee / PhD student
(TV-L 13, up to four years, DFG project AutoNomos),
* a scientific employee / PhD student
(TV-L 13, three years, BMBF project ADVEST), and
* a PostDoc
(TV-L 13, two years, DFG project ReCoNodes).
There will be no teaching obligations, but researchers will have the opportunity to interact with students in the context of their projects. Pay is according to the German bracket “TV-L 13″ (About 2800 Euros gross per month). Current funding for AutoNomos is for two years, but the expected duration is four.
AutoNomos deals with distributed algorithms for vehicle traffic: An adaptive and intelligent ad-hoc car network gathers information about the current traffic conditions. This information is then used to influence the traffic. The project is part of an interdisciplinary cooperation between Professor Fekete’s group and the Department of Telematics (Prof.Dr. Stefan Fischer) of the University of Lübeck. For more information, refer to the project publication [A1] and the project website.
ADVEST (Adaptive Verkehrssteuerung) is a cooperation with Prof.Dr.Ekkehard Köhler, BTU Cottbus, Prof.Dr.Rolf Möhring, TU Berlin, Prof.Dr.Kai Nagel, TU Berlin, Prof.Dr.Martin Skutella, Dortmund, funded by the BMBF program “Mathematik für Innovationen in Industrie und Dienstleistungen”
“ReCoNodes: Optimierungsmethodik zur Steuerung hardwarekonfigurierbarer Knoten” is a cooperation with Prof.Dr.Jürgen Teich, Erlangen, funded by the DFG priority program “Rekonfigurierbare Systeme” (DFG-SPP 1148). For more information, refer to the project publications [R1-R10] and the project website.
We are looking for applicants with an above-average degree in mathematics or computer science (Master’s degree or equivalent, e.g. German Diploma, resp. PhD degree), who have a solid knowledge in optimization and algorithms, an interest in and a capability for a wide range of scientific work (from developing ideas all the way to their practical realization), an open mind for the other activities of our department, and a healthy team spirit.
Proficiency in English is a must. Previous research experience and knowledge of LaTeX, programming languages, and relevant technologies are a plus.
We are offering an opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree and the participation in exciting interdisciplinary projects that span all the way from basic research in algorithms to its practical and technical application. As a member of our group, you will be part of a motivated team that maintains various interdisciplinary and international contacts and activities.
Among applicants with equal qualifications, handicapped persons will be given a preference. The Braunschweig University of Technology is an equal-opportunity employer and encourages women to apply. Because of its project character, none of the positions is suited for part-time employment.
Please send your detailed application by July 31, 2007
