Portugal: Postdoc - QCD in heavy ion collisions (LHC) and cosmic ray air showers (AUGER), Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST)
The Multidisciplinary Centre for Astrophysics (CENTRA) at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon (http://centra.ist.utl.pt) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in the domain of high energy QCD, with particular emphasis on its relevance for heavy ion collisions (LHC) and cosmic ray air shower development (Auger).
We encourage applications from candidates with a recent Ph.D. (no more than five years since completion) and with a strong background in QCD and/or phenomenology of heavy ion collisions and/or cosmic ray physics. The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Jorge Dias de Deus and Dr. José Guilherme Milhano and with the group at Santiago de Compostela (Professor Carlos Pajares, Dr. Néstor Armesto, Dr. Carlos Salgado and Dr. Elena Ferreiro). The fellowship will be awarded initially for one year with the possibility of renewal for up to three years.
Financial support for these fellowships is available through the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology), to which an application must be made separately. Candidates must, however, have the support of CENTRA. For further details see http://www.fct.mctes.pt/bolsas/concursos/
Application
Applications should include a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and a list of publications. Candidates should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the address given below.
Applications and letters of reference must be received by August 25, 2007.
Electronic applications are preferred and should be addressed to gui@fisica.ist.utl.pt (Dr. José Guilherme Milhano).
Printed materials may be sent to:
