Head, Department of Anthropology, Purdue University, USA

Purdue University, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, seeks a Department Head for the newly approved separate Department of Anthropology, to be established in Fall 2008. The position will be available July 1, 2008 with a five-year renewable term as Head reporting to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

We are expecting the founding Department Head to provide critical senior leadership and have a vision for developing the department, expand our current anthropology program, and increase our visibility in the discipline. Subfield, geographical and topical areas are open, but should complement existing faculty interest.


Qualifications

Qualifications include an earned doctorate in anthropology, a distinguished record of research and publication, and an appreciation of the four-field approach to anthropology, with administrative experience strongly preferred. The candidate must be qualified for appointment as a full professor.

The Anthropology Department will be one of 12 departments with 14 interdisciplinary programs in the College of Liberal Arts. Currently, the Anthropology Section within the Department of Sociology and Anthropology is composed of eleven faculty members, and offers an integrated four-field program with degrees at the B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. levels.
