International PhD Position in Optical Quantum Feedback Systems for Applications in Bio-sensing and Quantum Information Processing
Applications are invited for a three-year PhD scholarship within the field of quantum optics at the Department of Physics at the Technical University of Denmark. The project is a part of an international collaboration with the Max-Planck research center on Optics, Photonics and Information in Erlangen (Germany). Thus the position will include a one-year research stay in Erlangen.
The objective of the research project is to investigate quantum feedback control systems and explore their applications in bio-optical sensing and quantum information processing. By using quantum feedback control, ultra precise measurements at the fundamental quantum limit of an optical field can be executed. Such measurements have profound applications in the field of bio-chemical sensing where extremely small concentrations of biological active substances are to be detected and in quantum information processing where fragile quantum information is to be measured at the ultimate quantum limit.
Qualifications:
* master degree within optics/photonics, physics or engineering or a similar degree with an equivalent academic level.
* background in quantum optics is an advantage.
* good communication skills in English – written and spoken.
* ability to work independently, and to be a part of a dynamical group.
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programs of DTU. Information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies is included in the general rules of DTU, which may be obtained by application to the PhD program office at tel: +45 4525 1176 or at www.dtu.dk/english/research/PhD_programme.aspx
The PhD project is financed by the BIOP graduate school, the Max-Planck Research center in Erlangen and the Technical University of Denmark. The salary and appointment terms are in accordance with the current Danish rules for PhD degree students.
All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.
For further information please contact Associate Professor Ulrik L. Andersen, e-mail: ulrik.andersen[ at ]fysik.dtu.dk
To apply please send your application by regular mail no later than 17th of september 2007 in triplicate including a short motivation, a CV, copy of certificate with grades, publications and/or thesis, references if applicable to:
