AWE sponsored PhD Studentship Theory of phase separation in polymer nanocomposites Department of Chemical and Process Engineering
The Department of Chemical and Process Engineering invites applications for a postgraduate student to study the theory of phase separation in polymer nanocomposites. Specifically, the student will develop and apply techniques based on the density functional theory of classical fluids and integral equation theory to model these systems. This project is sponsored by AWE, a division of the MOD.
Candidates will have obtained at least a 2:1 in a highly numerate discipline, preferably physics or mathematics, prior to the start of the studentship, which commences September 2007. An interest in theory, particularly statistical mechanics and chemical physics, and computer programming would be a distinct advantage. The student will receive a (non-taxable) stipend of £15,000 per annum, which is well above the basic EPSRC rate.
