The Center for Gravitation and Cosmology at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (UWM) invites applications for up to four postdoctoral research positions. The initial appointments are for one year, with renewal for a second (and, in some cases, a third) year, contingent on continued funding and satisfactory performance.
The Center for Gravitation and Cosmology at UWM is one of the nation's largest and most active research groups in gravity and astrophysics with 7 faculty members, Luis Anchordoqui, Patrick Brady, Jolien Creighton, John Friedman, Leonard Parker, Xavier Siemens, and Alan Wiseman, senior scientist Scott Koranda, visiting professor Warren Anderson, several postdoctoral fellows, and approximately 6 graduate students.
The group also maintains a close relationship with the Albert Einstein Institutes in Hannover and Golm, Germany, through Bruce Allen and Maria Alessandra Papa, who each hold Adjunct appointments at UWM and visit regularly.
The group performs research that spans most aspects of LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC) gravitational wave data analysis activities, including searches for binary neutron star and black hole inspirals, continuous waves from isolated neutron stars, development and support of EinsteinatHome, bursts, and stochastic background. More details can be found on the group web page at http://www.lsc-group.phys.uwm.edu. The group is also active in several grid computing collaborations including the Open Science Grid (OSG). The group is looking to hire up to three post-doctoral research associates to work in these areas.
In cosmology, the current emphasis is on the recent acceleration of the Universe and its possible explanations, including ones involving quantized fields in curved spacetime. Work is also being done on quantum aspects of black holes. The group is looking to hire one postdoctoral research associate to work in these areas.
Application
Applicants whose work overlaps any of the research interests of the group should send a C.V., publication list, and a brief statement of their research interests, either by email to cgcpd08@gravity.phys.uwm.edu or via hard copy/regular mail, to:
Ms. Kate Valerius, Gravity Postdoc Search Committee, Dept. of Physics, UW-Milwaukee, P.O. Box 413, Milwaukee, WI 53201 USA.
Applicants should also arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to this address. Screening of applications will begin December 1, 2007 and will continue until all positions are filled.
