Departments of Biosciences and Nutrition (BioNut) and Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
Two 2 year postdoctorial positions: (with possibilities for extensions) are available at the beginning of 2008 in a basic research project at the interface between endocrinology and immunology. The project is jointly run by professors Sam Okret (BioNut) and Mikael Jondal (MTC). It concerns the role of glucocorticoids (GC) in two basic areas: the involution of the thymus gland and the development of autoimmune diseases, in particular atherosclerosis (AS) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
The project: requires competences in (1) molecular genetics and animal care for the generation and characterization of transgenic mice, and (2) cellular immunology, in particular in AS and/or RA models in mice, and/or the generation of dendritic cells for the use in cellular immunotherapy.
The project is supported by the EU and will be performed in context of a large, collaborative network of participants that each contribute their special complementary expertize.
The Karolinska Institute: (KI) in Stockholm is the largest unit for health sciences in Sweden and contribute around 40% of the national scientific output. KI (www.ki.se) consists of a large number of research groups that are organized into departments and research centers and supported by core facilities offering an up-to-date biomedical research infrastructure.
The applicants: Should have a PhD degree (not more that 3 years from the expected starting date) and a strong background in one of the two areas described above. He/she should be fluent in spoken and written english. Three references are required.
