International Research Institute of Stavanger AS (IRIS) was established on 17th. October 2005 by Rogaland Research (RF) and the University of Stavanger (UiS) as an independent research institute. The institute specialises in development and competence in the new knowledge community within the areas of petroleum, marine environment and social and industrial development. IRIS, which is customer oriented, is involved in several multinational projects, including EU programmes and has customers in a number of countries. The institute also has a significant role in influencing national knowledge and values, with close links to the Universities of Stavanger and Bergen, as well as Rogaland Science Park.
IRIS commercialises its work through its own subsidiary IRIS - Forskningsinvest AS which has owner interests in approx. 25 companies. The Institute, together with its subsidiary and associated companies, forms a group with approx. 250 employees altogether, and is one of the largest research groups in Norway
IRIS has its head office in Stavanger and has considerable activities in the offices in Bergen and Mekjarvik.
IRIS’ quality system is certified to NS-EN ISO 9001:2001 and our environmental management system is certified to NS-EN ISO 14001:2004.
The department for petroleum research, with approx. 100 employees, is organised in IRIS – Petroleum. It consists of drilling, well and reservoir modelling, well construction and risk evaluation, field studies and new exploitation technologies, reservoir and geomodelling and increased recovery as well as test- and development facilities linked to Ullrigg and laboratories.
Work assignments
Postdoctoral research in the field of geological modeling with focus on modeling of tectonic processes related to sedimentary basins and/or postglacial rebound of Scandinavia. This includes modeling of isostatic movements, crustal/subcrustal thinning and various other processes related to heat flow and leading to vertical movements. The researcher will be working on projects funded by The Research Council of Norway, and carried out in collaboration with researchers at IRIS/UiS.
Competency requirements
We are looking for strongly skilled persons with education from university or college and competence in one or more of the above mentioned subject areas.
Nevertheless, IRIS is very conscious that these qualities alone are no guarantee of innovative creative power. Knowledge is created in relations between human beings, and through such relationships IRIS may actively support the establishment and maintain a culture of learning and development.
IRIS values an open-minded and investigative staff, with the ability to get on easily together in the working environment. The ideal is not a homogeneous workforce, but rather mutual respect and appreciation, and the ability to work together towards a common target.
Experience
The postdoctoral are open for applicants with background in Geology, Petroleum Science or Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related fields.
Personal qualities
You are creative, academically competent, able to work well in multi disciplinary teams and interested in academic challenges and advancement.
Conditions
We offer a professional challenge and personal development possibilities. We also offer flexibility in working hours, excellent vacation arrangements, a competitive salary, pension and insurance package, good welfare arrangements, etc.
